Algorithmic Anxiety
Print on Metal & Fabric
Commissioned as part of a group exhibition curated by Freedom Studio, these artworks explore the relationship between algorithms, digital identity, and self perception through a series of large scale collage works created from over 10,000 images collected from a personal Instagram explore page. Combining memes, fan culture, animals, advertisements, and fragmented internet imagery, the works reflect the constantly shifting nature of algorithmic recommendation systems and the ways digital platforms construct personalised online identities.
Over several months, the project involved documenting and studying changes within the algorithm, tracking how visual patterns, interests, and content evolved over time. These findings were translated into a series of dense digital self portraits that mirror the overwhelming and compressed visual language of contemporary social media feeds.
The collages were printed onto metal panels alongside two large hanging fabric scrolls referencing the endless and repetitive motion of digital scrolling. Moving between internet aesthetics, image overload, and fragmented identity construction, the works question how algorithms increasingly shape taste, attention, and perception within online environments.
