Honeycomb Hi-Fi

Honeycomb Hi-Fi is a listening bar and music event in Dubai featuring DJs from both the Gulf and the UK. The poster draws inspiration from vintage Gulf cassette covers and the visual language of cassette culture across the region. Combining Arabic calligraphy with contemporary English typography through layered compositions and contrasting type styles, the work references the irregular layouts and imperfections found throughout older printed music materials.
The project was created by collecting cassette covers and visiting an old cassette store in Sharjah, where unexpected combinations of scripts, typography, and imagery became an ongoing source of inspiration. Rather than following fixed typographic systems, many of the collected cassette covers embrace visual inconsistency, allowing decorative lettering, typography, and image making to coexist.
